ARIDE ISLAND
With its
magnificent bird colonies and spectacular views from the sheer escarpments, Aride is considered as one of the most striking of all Seychelles ’ granitic islands. In
spite of its name, the island is far from dry with luxuriant vegetation but,
on a hot day, trekking the island’s pathways can be arduous.
Boasting the
largest concentration of Noddy and Sooty terns of
any granitic island in the Seychelles group, Aride is also home
to the impressive Roseate Tern and Red-Tailed Tropic Bird. This is the ideal place to photograph baby Tropic birds in the nest and to view the rare
Wright’s Gardenia, a species of plant found nowhere else on earth.
