Wedding Formalities: Terms & Conditions

The civil status act provides that the marriage of non-citizens and non-residents may be celebrated on the day immediately following the day of publication. The intending spouses should however produce to the civil status officer at the time of publication a certificate issued under the authority of the prime minister to the effect that they are not citizens or residents of Mauritius. This certificate is obtainable on application to the registrar of civil status at Port Louis, the capital.
Documents required:
First six pages of each passport.
Birth certificate of both parties.
Decree absolute for each divorced party. (In case of previous divorce)
Deed poll proof is required if name changed.
In case of widow/widower, death certificate of deceased spouse required.
Under the age of 18, proof of parents’ consent is required in the form of an affidavit stamped by a notary public.
Completed form of “application to marry for non-citizens” - copy herewith
All documents dully filled must be sent to African Dreams.
Other information
Divorced women getting married within 10 months of the divorce pronouncement will also need a local doctor’s certificate of non-pregnancy.
We need photocopies of all documents at least 8 weeks before the wedding.
Couples must take originals to be submitted on wedding day.
Marriages can be on any working day - Monday to Friday - except public holidays, subject to agreement from the hotel and the registrar.
Wedding day must be fixed when sending all relative documents and must be confirmed by the registrar office.
Physical presence of both parties is required on the island 24 hours before the wedding as the bans have to be read and the affidavit must be signed by both parties at the main registrar’s office.
Costs for administrative formalities and organisation: AUD 595 .- (including vat)
Rates are valid as from the 4th of January 2006, and include the following:-
<0l> Affidavits fees, court fees, civil status officer fees
Transfers to/from court for both parties for affidavits signature
Transfers to/from hotel for civil status officer on the wedding day
Handling fee
Additional fee of AUD 140.- for interpreter (on request)
Despatch of wedding certificate by express courier (TNT) AUD 60. (on request)
