Mauritius Hotels La Pirogue Hotel****
LOCATION: Modelled on a fishing village, La Pirogue hotel, is located along one of the country’s finest beaches, of immaculate white sand, over one kilometre long. In addition, it nestles in a magnificent tropical garden, a remarkable palm-grove of 8 hectares pleasantly punctuated with colourful hibiscus and fragrant frangipani. Everything here is reminiscent of the traditional Mauritian fishing boat from which the hotel takes its name – from the main building inspired by a white sail floating in the wind, to the chalets built in local volcanic rock and crowned with wood and thatch. Merging into the Indian Ocean, the new ‘infinity’ pool of 1,000 square metres is an invitation to relaxation and happiness. The hotel is ideally situated in the proximity of the island’s main commercial centres of Port Louis (25 mins), Quatre Bornes (20 mins) and Curepipe (45 mins). By virtue of its west-coast location, La Pirogue presents numerous excursion opportunities, notably to Casela Bird Park, the private hunting-ground of Yemen, Chamarel and its ‘seven-coloured earth’, and the natural south. Another destination of interest is Black River with its celebrated big-game fishing clubs.
ACCOMMODATION:
ARecently renovated, all guestrooms are at ground-level and open privately on the magnificent palm-grove and the Indian Ocean. Each is equipped with its own air-conditioning unit and comprises twin beds or a double bed with a built-in drawer; a redesigned bathroom with separate bath and shower, toilet and 110/220-volt socket for electric razor; a mini-bar; a safe; a hair-dryer; a television set with satellite channels, a cartoon channel for kids and a teletext information system; a telephone with international direct dialling (IDD); equipment for making tea and coffee; and a furnished private terrace. The Superior guestrooms are situated closer to the sea. Room Service operates 24 hours a day.
RESTAURANTS AND BARS: The Main Restaurant: seats 450 people and is open from 7.30 to 10.30
AM for breakfast. Dinner is from 7.30 to 10 PM and the buffet features
several themed live-cooking stations with food prepared fresh infront
of the guests. ENTERTAINMENT: The hotel's resident band plays every night, and world class themed shows several night a week. FOR CHILDREN The ‘Fun Kids Club’ For children aged 2 to 11 years. Open 12 hours a day and purpose-planned and equipped to cater for the specific needs of children on holiday, the club offers numerous age-appropriate fun activities, as well as special menus, buffets and barbecues specifically prepared for the kids’ intention, all under the watchful eye of specially-trained hostesses. Activities include mini-golf, tennis, windsurfing, swimming, pony-riding and excursions. The services of a babysitter (for which there is an extra charge) are required for 2- and 3-year-olds.
The ‘Teens Club’ The ideal meeting-place for guests aged 12 to 20, the Teens Club organises and runs sports activities, outings, excursions and special evenings for teenagers THE PRIVILEGE CARD On arrival at the hotel, each guest is handed a Privilege Card, which entitles him or her to certain sports free of charge (see below) and to other specific advantages including reductions on certain activities, on excursions and on car rental, and discounts at various shops around the island and at the hotel.
SPORTS (FREE OF CHARGE) Kayaking, laser-sailing, pedalo, glass-bottom-boat rides, snorkelling, water-skiing, windsurfing, aquarobics classes in the hotel’s swimming-pool, water-polo, tennis (7 floodlit courts), aerobics classes, basket-polo, frisbee, jogging, mini-football, mini-golf, ping-pong, pétanque, billiards and volley-ball. SPORTS (CHARGEABLE) Oxon rides, scuba-diving (PADI courses are also available), big-game fishing, parasailing, banana-boat and tube rides, horse rides and mountain-biking. Golf (with preferential green fees for Privilege Card holders) at the new 18-hole One&Only Le Touessrok Golf Course and The Links 18-hole course, both on the east coast. THE SUGAR CLUB La Pirogue guests have free access to this air-conditioned, Cybex-equipped health and fitness centre supervised by competent coaches and located at Sugar Beach Resort, a short walk away across the palm-grove. There is a charge for personal coaching. The centre also houses a hair-dressing salon, a beauty parlour, which provides beauty care and massage, for a fee, and a sauna, which is free of charge. SERVICES (CHARGEABLE) Secretarial services, car rental (leading credit cards accepted), dry-cleaning, laundry, film processing, foreign-exchange office (open 24 hours a day), library, taxi service, infirmary with doctor on call, cameraman and photographer (accredited by the hotel) for special occasions, e-mails and access to the internet (on request). LA PIROGUE’S BOUTIQUES La Pirogue’s boutiques stock a variety of gift items, clothes bearing the hotel’s logo, and other souvenirs as well as duty-free jewellery. CONFERENCES AND MEETINGS The hotel’s Conference Room can accommodate up to 250 persons. It is equipped with an audio-cassette player, a CD player, a flip chart or a whiteboard, a lectern, microphones, a multi-system video player, a slide projector, an overhead projector, a sound system, rostrums, a screen, and a TV monitor.
